Life exists in the moments, in the unexpected, in feeling. It doesn’t exist in objectives or tactics or technique. It’s about finding life. That’s what acting is.

Does percentage/EV matter when there is only one iteration? Why or why not? I can’t see that it does.

Maybe if there is only one chance, it’s not worth taking.

Your attention is your currency. That’s what you have to spend.

I am flawless, I am perfect. But I’m trying to be more perfect. The universe can’t be wrong.

The challenge in acting is to find the truth. But the truth is not the most important thing. The truth is too serious to be the most important thing. Life is the most important thing.

To be excited is much more valuable than confidence.

It was as if for more than a decade the universe was saying, “You’re good enough to be what you want it be. But we have even bigger plans for you.”

_____________________

That 5, 6, 7 year span was stagnant. But at least I was excited about acting.

There is being clever, and there is brilliance. Let’s not confuse the two.

The acquisition of food use to be a life and death proposition. Now it’s bothersome. My, what privilege. What privilege.

_____________________

What if everything you did was perfect, except your timing was off, so you failed? Said another way, if you had taken the same action in a different timeline you would have succeeded. How would you know? And how do you know when the inverse is true, and you just got lucky?

The past is not essential, but it can be predictive.

Laws are important, but culture is more important.

I am my own harshest critique. Unlike for many, this comes from confidence not insecurity. I know I can be better, so I hold myself to it.

We know we are on the right path when we see ourselves trending towards the answers without the help of the masters.

Without sound chess theory, how can one play chess well? It’s not possible. Indeed it was the breakthrough in theory that led, in part, to Fischer’s greatness. The same is true in acting. Poor acting is always accompanied by poor theory. It starts with the approach.

A servant, indeed. But a dignified servant.

The first litmus test than an idea must pass in order to be deemed worthy of exploring is the test of congruency. The argument must lack obvious fallacies, premature conclusions, and be rooted in sound logic. If this is so, then we can proceed. Houses built on sand are dangerous.

Life isn’t about stats. It’s about experience.

At $20 these are trash. At $400 they are the future.

New Yezzy shoes.

I think where we disagree is that you teach technique – how to make things seem real. But I am focused on the nature of reality – how to make things be real.

The comfortable/safe step is to return to the scene. But the right step is to return to the character.

And I’ll look back on this time and say, “I was in the prime of my youth when the 20s hit.” And that might just explain everything.

Comedy must push boundaries. It must.

You seeing people eating steak with their hands is how I see it when people allow their emotions to influence their decision making. It’s unsophisticated, unrefined, undeveloped, and ultimately barbaric.

If my strategy works, they’ll call me a genius. But if it doesn’t, I’ll just be another patzer from Portland.
