We ought to make a government agency who’s job it is to find great prospective governmental candidates. Then instead of people saying, “I want to be in the Senate! Elect me!” We will have people say, “This guy/gal doesn’t want to be in govt. He is perfect. Vote for him.”

For many years I have been of the opinion that the right people to hold seats of power in the government were exactly those who absolutely do not want to hold a seat of power in the govt. But how do we get that? This is my answer.

Is “diversity” about visually observable differences like skin color, gender, & age, or is it about differences of thought, perspective & personality? And if we assume that observable differences mean different thought patterns then aren’t we being racist, sexist, and ageist?

I spoke with an HR director, today and after a long conversation, this was my final question. Her answer was it WAS about observable qualities and NO it wasn’t racist/sexist/ageist because those ideas are traditionally about limiting people. But what she didn’t realize is it’s racist/sexist/ageist against the OTHER people.

If something that is true has been twisted and used in the past for nefarious purposes, does that we mean we ought not talk about it for fear of re-sparking those nefarious applications? I say no. Talking about the truth is the actual best way to prevent the truth from being twisted.

The “N” word confuses me. Black Americans use it in daily, public speech, and yet if someone who isn’t black uses the word (even in private speech or as a joke etc) then they are demonized for it. This sounds like the poster-child example of finding reasons to be offended.

In 20-30 years when every person has a social media history that includes saying crazy and immature things, people will stop judging people for their past tweets. What we are seeing now is a clash in generations; a cultural transition where many still don’t understand the internet

If a bias has merit (objectively or subjectively) then unconscious bias training is a counterproductive pursuit because it transforms the bias from a possibility to a certainty.

Clearly not every possible element in the universe exist on planet earth. So the idea arises, perhaps our theory of what is technologically possible is limited because of what we have. Some suggest, for example, that space travel would advance tremendously with other elements.

Which is worse: that some people consider saying “Merry Christmas” a “microaggression,” or that kindhearted, joyful, everyday people like are now forced to constantly consider whether they’ll get in trouble for saying nice things?

I think if you get on a winning streak early on and you become successful, it’s pretty pompous and prideful to tell everyone else how to get on a winning streak. The people I respect are the ones who took some big beatings and then were able to pull it back together. They are the ones who have the real life experience to give you a holistic perspective on how to be successful.
